Coming up with a new name is always a challenge. Baby names are in a category of their own, but website domain names or a blog are certainly not easy either. So, I had to come up with an identity for the blog. Basically, I do not want to write long stories or share my day with you – I just want you to SAVE SOME MONEY!

Especially with the gas prices being what they are these days…

Saving Money + Scottish + Dutch = Thrifty2

So, the name should be about saving money, discounts, being Dutch (hmm), living in a Canadian town with Scottish heritage (hmm again) … This is how I came up with the name Thrifty Squared, or Thrifty².

My wife and I hate spending too much. Buying shoes and clothing at full price is definitely not necessary at Canadian department store Zellers, as everything will be on sale one day. Credit cards can be a good thing if you do not transfer a balance and accumulate bonuses on everything you buy (like with President’s Choice Master Card, where you save for a 1% cash back that can be redeemed for groceries at Zehrs, No Frills and other Loblaws stores). We try to find a bank that doesn’t charge you an arm and a leg in service charges.

You get the idea…
